"Through blockchain many become one."
How does this work?
You have two options with Scarab outlined below:
1. You purchase Scarab Token(s) and hold them to support the artists and use your membership to vote.
2. You purchase Scarab Token(s) and create a piece of art which you want to submit to be put under the Scarab Persona Brand. You accomplish this by submitting your artwork on the submission page, after which your submission will be emailed to all current token holders. After you make a submission (Once the system is up) you'll have to wait 7 days while our system sends out emails and the token holders make a decision. You'll need 50% or more of all the current token holders that voted to approve for a piece of art to qualify as an official Scarab artwork.
What is Scarab?
Scarab is the world's first cryptocurrency backed Artist Persona. It's a decentralized, transparent, sharing, community run artist.
What that means is that Scarab is an artist like Picasso, Warhol, or Davinci but who's works are created by other artist' and curated by the community. While Scarab may be imaginary and digital its works are quite real and authentic.
What is a Blockchain?
A Blockchain is a distributed public ledger that's decentralized and contains all transactions that have ever been executed. It is constantly growing as 'completed' blocks are added to it with a new set of recordings. The blocks are added to the blockchain in a linear, chronological order. All of The Scarab Experiment's transactions are recorded in the Bitcoin blockchain and available for public review at anytime, creating a transparent and secure system that doesn't need to depend on trust of any individual or organization.
How does Scarab create a work of art?
Scarab creates a work of art when a community member submits an artwork and over 50% of the voting community deems it acceptable as an official Scarab piece. Official Scarab artwork are issued a Scarab seal which are used for its authentication. Scarab will only create 50 works of art before retiring. Scarab artwork offers an intrinsic value because no one knows who really created the artwork, each work could have been made by "Joe" down the street or an actual famous artist. By not knowing who created the work all of Scarab's work can be seen as both extremely valuable and worthless at the same time. This creates an intriguing play on what we value as art and why. Does the identity of the artwork's creator effect the way in which the art is received?
What does the original artist get for their work?
Every artwork that's accepted as an official Scarab work will be purchased by The Scarab Community for 1,000 Scarab Tokens from the 50,000 token reserve. Also, the artist will directly receive 10% of the sale when the artwork is sold.
Does the original artist lose the rights to their work?
No! The artist retains all rights but also grants The Scarab community the right to use the image for promotions, shows, prints etc. The original artwork also becomes part of The Scarab Community and the original artist will act as the custodian of the artwork until a sale has been made. At which point the art will be shipped to it's new owner. All offers to acquire an artwork must be approved by The Scarab community by another vote of 50% or more.
What are Scarab Tokens?
Scarab Tokens are assets created through CounterParty that act as a means for a transparent membership into the community of Scarab. Being in the community you become a part of Scarab. Scarab is split into only 100,000 whole tokens (They can't be divided) making each token .001% of all Scarab Tokens and limiting the total membership allowed to 100,000 individuals. In reality there will be less than 100,000 members because individuals can hold as many Tokens as they like. By holding a Scarab Token the system is able to verify your membership and allow you to submit artwork for inclusion in the experiment. All value collected through the sale of Scarab Tokens is used to support the project and boost community participation in various ways.
